Four Sisters Ranch - Zinfandel
A great example of a vintage, this limited edition Zinfandel from Four Sisters Ranch came from what was called the Year of the Frost. This wine, as well as the other wines of the Four Sisters Ranch & Winery, pulled through and wow'd for the end of a year that many expected to be slightly disappointed about. The effect of this sudden spring frost during fruit set was a loss of close to 50% of the vineyards tonnage in Cabernet, Syrah, and Zinfandel -- a bad sign for selling grapes, but a hopeful sign for a wine with more concentrated flavors and aromas. Instead of these vines putting all their effort into many clusters, this 2011 vintage was one of the limited clusters that allowed for many months of added phenols into the skin.
Aromas of red fruits, strawberries, and stewed cherries are offered to you when you open this bottle. Though it has quite a developed fruit flavor on the taste, it remains complex, pulling together many different red fruits to showcase as a ripe syrup to a bright red cherry. This wine comes from a high scoring vintage year that started with a frost concentrating tonnage by over 50%, a main reason for its full fruit flavor.
